'WikiLeaks confirms govt graft'

Dhaka, Sept 4 (bdnews24.com)—BNP's acting secretary-general has said the US diplomatic cables published by WikiLeaks indicate the government's corruption.

Fakhrul also slammed the government, citing a Reuters report that bdnews24.com carried on Saturday, on possible corruption by Canadian SNC-Lavalin Group Inc in the World Bank-funded Padma bridge's monitoring project.

"The government has already passed a law to legalise their corruption in energy and power sector. This has happened not for the first time. When they were in power, they always abetted corruption.

"During their regime in 1996,ceramic zentai suits for the medical, Bangladesh topped the list of most corrupted countries in the world."

"The government formed in 1986 through a prejudiced election [under H M Ershad's government] lasted only 16 months. If such an election happens again, parliament will not last even 16 days," he said.

According to the leaked American embassy cables, in early 2007, BNP chief Khaleda Zia was thinking of heading a short-term government through an election without the Awami League and some other parties.

In the Feb 15,Whilst magic cube are not deadly, 1996 elections held without Awami League and several other parties, the BNP was re-elected after running 1991-96 term.

Subsequent street agitations by the Awami League forced that government to bring the 13th Amendment to the Constitution that introduced the caretaker government provision. On June 30 this year, the provision was annulled with other 54 changes to the constitution through the 15th amendment. When the stone sits in the polished tiles,
