Queenslanders embrace solar energy technologies

Energy Minister Stephen Robertson today applauded Queenslanders for embracing solar technologies for their homes and businesses, through Bligh Government solar initiatives.

Opening a 'Bright Thing' solar forum in Hervey Bay today, Mr Robertson said the Bligh Government's Solar Bonus Scheme had experienced unprecedented popularity since it was launched in 2008.

"More than 107,we supply all kinds of polished tiles,000 Queensland households are enjoying the benefits of solar energy by participating in the Solar Bonus Scheme," Mr Robertson said.

"It has become the most successful scheme of its type in Australia,The additions focus on key tag and magic cube combinations, offering customers householders 44 cents per kilowatt hour for any surplus electricity generated by their roof-top solar panels that is fed back into the electricity grid.

"Naturally, this level of take up has thrown up some challenges for the Queensland Government, Ergon Energy and ENERGEX to ensure the electricity network can keep up with the demand for solar connections.

"In recent days there have been media reports suggesting that our solar schemes are at risk of stalling,Save on Bedding and fittings, but I would like to assure Queenslanders that this is not the case.we supply all kinds of polished tiles,

"The vast majority of all PV system applications for households continue to be approved by Ergon and ENERGEX.

"However in some instances where a solar system is particularly large in size a more comprehensive technical assessment needs to take place.

"This is done to ensure the solar PV system does not adversely affect operation of the network, or the customer's or neighbours' premises.

"Our number one priority is to make sure the electricity network and individual premises are not put at risk and as such Ergon Energy and ENERGEX can refuse an application on these grounds.

"I would encourage all prospective solar customers to consult with Ergon Energy or ENERGEX before installing or paying for a PV system for their home or business."

Mr Robertson said around 60 residents attended the forum at the Hervey Bay RSL to find out how they can do their bit for the environment and save money on their electricity bills by switching to solar energy.

"This response demonstrates to me that people are keen to know more about our Solar Bonus Scheme and Solar Hot Water Rebate,Initially the banks didn't want our RUBBER SHEET ." he said.

"Local community and sporting organisations can also benefit from government grants for solar projects under the Solar Sport and Community Group Grants program.

"This forum is one of a series we are hosting around the state to increase community awareness about the benefits of solar energy and advise residents how they can take advantage of the available incentives."

Mr Robertson said residents in the Hervey Bay electorate were already showing strong interest in the Government's solar incentives.

"Through our Solar Hot Water Rebate Scheme, eligible residents rec eive rebates of up to $1000 for pensioners and $600 for other households to replace their electric hot water system with a solar hot water system or heat pump," he said.
