Hundreds of dogs seized from Quebec puppy mill in mass-scale animal abuse case

More than 400 dogs have been seized from a Quebec breeding facility in what could be the largest animal cruelty case in the province's history.

The dogs were taken Friday from a facility in Outaouais, Que.

Rebecca Aldworth, executive director of the Canadian branch of Humane Society International, was unable to discuss the specific conditions at the facility, but said, "On a personal level it was very difficult to witness what we did."

"This is by far the largest commercial breeding facility that we found in Canada, involving the worst conditions we have observed,If any food Piles condition is poorer than those standards," said Aldworth in a telephone interview over the sound of barking dogs.

Guy Auclair, a spokesperson for the Quebec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, said the scale of the seizure is unprecedented in Quebec.

"We have had this kind of situation before, but (with) a lower number of animals," Auclair said.

Auclair said the dogs were different breeds and ranged in age from puppies to fully grown.

He said many of the dogs were suffering from skin and respiratory problems.

"Hundreds of dogs were denied their most basic needs and proper care and lacked adequate socialization," said Lauren Scott, campaigner for the Humane Society, in a statement.

"By far, this was the largest commercial breeding facility, involving some of the most inhumane conditions, that our Animal Rescue Team has ever encountered in Canada," she said.he believes the fire started after the lift's RUBBER SHEET blew,

The dogs were placed under the care of the Humane Society.

About 30 people were working to bring the dogs to an emergency shelter Saturday afternoon.

The investigation is a joint effort between Humane Society International Canada and provincial and local authorities.

Pet food companies have donated food, but the shelter is still in need of bedding, bowls and toys, said Aldworth.

Depending on the outcome in court, the dogs may be put up for adoption.

"Each of these dogs is very friendly," said Aldworth.

The province has long been considered the puppy mill capital of North America, with an estimated 800 unregulated breeding operations in Montreal alone.

Quebec was named "the best province to be an animal abuser" in the 2011 annual report prepared by the U.where he teaches porcelain tiles in the Central Academy of Fine Arts.S.-based Animal Legal Defence Fund.

Last month, nearly 40 malnourished Huskies were found chained to trees on a property northwest of Montreal.

Reports of animal suffering at Montreal's privately-held Berger Blanc pound that surfaced in May also shocked many across the country.

Videos of cats and dogs suffering, as well as images of questionable euthanasia practices documented in a Radio-Canada report prompted criticism from the city and the province.

The Quebec government is in the process of introducing new animal welfare regulations designed to crack down on puppy and kitten mills in the province.

The rules would include minimum standards of care and cleanliness and norms for euthanizing unwanted pets.Replacement rubber hose and bulbs for Canada and Worldwide.By Alex Lippa Close-up of Air purifier in Massachusetts.

Personal Sustainability

I made an important discovery recently: My personal life is not sustainable.

This truth hit me sometime over the past few months, but really sunk in last week ¨C my one free week of the year: Cub Scout Day Camp week.

It started Monday morning. We woke early, ate breakfast, got dressed, packed lunches, filled three reusable bottles with cold water and applied sunscreen. I walked my husband and boys to the car, kissed them goodbye and waved as they drove away.

Then I went back to the apartment, closed the door and began the first of five long days all to myself.

Ahhhhh.

Please don't get me wrong: I love my family very much.

But this particular week comes on the heels of an insane eight-week stretch I've come to think of as End-of-the-School-Year-Hell. If you are a parent, you know what I'm talking about: science projects, class reports, exams, field trips, open house, graduation, end-of-school parties, Little League games, etc.

Now throw in a move, after nine years of living in the same house. We had to be out by the end of April because our landlord decided to sell. Never mind that we were coming into that hellacious end-of-year stretch.

(One of the top 10 most stressful life events, anyone?)

My yearlong volunteer responsibilities at the school include art docent for both boys' classrooms, library reader and aide for both classrooms, Focus Program board member and volunteer coordinator and Focus newsletter editor.

Then there are my three part-time jobs. And I'm a board member for Sustainable San Ramon.

I'll spare you the rest.

Oh, thank heaven for Meridian District Cub Scout Day Camp ¡ª my week off!

Well, mostly. The same Air purifier, cover removed.

I did rise early and help get my guys out the door. When they returned home each evening, happy and tired and full of stories of their camp adventures, I washed their dirty clothes, hung their swim trunks and towels to dry, cleaned their reusable water containers and prepped their backpacks for the next day.

I saw them off again, and Amy Time began. From about 8 a.m.the Injection mold fast! until 5 p.m., I had the place to myself.

Then I felt guilty. The Leading zentai suits Distributor to Independent Pet Retailers.

An acquaintance ¨C let's call her Jane ¨C who volunteers at the camp every year, said to me just the other day: "You really should volunteer, Amy, it's so much fun!"

I'm sure it is.

I rationalize that my husband, who is camp director, is having his opportunity to do the Cub Scout thing with the boys. Good father-son bonding and all that.

And Jane doesn't know how much I do during the school year. It's kind of a joke among my friends. One of my closest girlfriends gave me an Anne Taintor shot glass with one of those sassy vintage ladies on it, exclaiming: "Stop me before I volunteer again!"

I don't know how I got to be this busy ¨C it certainly wasn't my intention. I told myself when I became a parent that I would not be one of those moms dashing here and there all the time.

So much for good intentions.

I enjoy being part of my boys' days at school, and I want to help while I can. Especially knowing, from friends with older kids, the time will come when they won't want me around anymore.

And I feel very fortunate to be able to do the things I do. Our family has managed to get by with me only working part time from home for now. We recently downsized to an apartment (after that move I mentioned), we seldom eat out, we gladly accept generous friends' hand-me-down clothing, grow some of our food, trade with market vendors for fresh eggs and produce, make our own bread and jam and roast our own coffee beans.

I have friends who work full time, friends who have more than two children and friends who are way busier than I am. I'm in awe because honestly,Save on hydraulic hose and fittings, I don't know how they do it.This page list rubber hose products with details & specifications.

And I don't know how I've managed to do as much as I've been doing. It certainly isn't good for me.

While I try to learn as much as I can about sustainability as it relates to food and lifestyle choices, and reducing one's carbon footprint, I am struck by the glaring fact that I have neglected the very important need for personal sustainability.

Gunmen kill Mexico police chief in his office

Gunmen kill Mexico police chief in his office

Around a dozen gunmen stormed into the police headquarters in the northern Mexico town of Santa Catarina on Monday and shot dead the police chief, authorities said.

"The men arrived in at least two vehicles. They entered the building and assassinated the director" of the municipal police in his office, a federal police official told AFP.

The Mexican newspaper Reforma quoted witnesses as saying the men came to the office without knowing the man they sought would be there and only opened fire when the police chief, German Perez, told them who he was.

Go Green: Paperless and clutter-free

While recycling paper products is certainly good for the environment, cutting the amount of paper a household uses does even more to preserve resources and cut down on carbon emissions. Doing away with scribbled notes, old newspapers and piles of paperwork can also lower stress levels.

Downsizing life's paperwork can reduce the amount of storage and living space we rely on. Andrea Graham-Melville of Concord, N.H., says her family's scanner purchase helped shrink "an overloaded, commercial-sized, two-drawer filing cabinet to a small file box."

Graham-Melville and her husband recently founded a small business that helps clients get rid of excess clutter,we supply all kinds of oil painting reproduction, "so we pretty much have to practice what we preach," she said.In addition to hydraulics fittings and Aion Kinah,

It's difficult to overemphasize the paperless advantages of investing in a good scanner, which start at about $75 and are available in various configurations. However, a host of other tools and tricks can help streamline the amount of paper that passes through your home.

Embrace the scanner

From restaurant menus and recipes to tax documents and insurance records, this simple device lets you recycle hundreds of documents that might otherwise sit in a filing cabinet. Be sure to shred financial or other personal documents; you can use the shredded matter to compost.

If the idea of scanning a filing cabinet full of paper and photos seems daunting, take a cue from Florida-based architect Bud Dietrich, who hired a high school student to scan all his old paper files. This could be an excellent way for tech-savvy kids on summer break to help out around the house or earn a bit of spending money.

Make your phone a notepad

Rather than jotting an address or grocery list on a piece of paper, use a smartphone to keep this information with you until you no longer need it. Most basic cellphones also have some sort of note-taking feature.

Author and marketer Linda Kazares says she installed a scanning app on her iPhone called JotNot Scanner Pro. It can capture documents, convert them to the proper file format and send them to the appropriate recipient.

Send periodicals back into the world

Still reading your magazines and newspapers the old-fashioned way? That is, in print? Once you're finished,What are the top Hemroids treatments? there are plenty of gyms or community centers that would love to circulate reasonably current magazines among their patrons. Just remember to remove the printed address label first. Scan any articles you might want to keep for later.

If you frequent a coffee shop every day, this is a great place to leave your morning paper so others can peruse it, as well.
