West Deptford Homecoming Weekend: Then and Now

The summer seems to have said its final goodbye and is finally going out in a wave of color. The bold oranges, rich yellows and blaze reds have painted our neighborhoods, and the cool crisp of autumn has suddenly found its way into the air. Throughout the township, piles of leaves are being raked out into the street, waiting for the first pick-up of the season and tempting every group of ten year olds on bicycles to ride through.

I love all the seasons, but there is something about the arrival of fall that seems to breathe fresh life into us. Maybe it’s the end of the lazy, hazy days and the beginning of nature’s most colorful palette. Or maybe it’s the way we all seem to head outside, with bikes or rakes or soccer balls, just ready to seize the moments before winter gray envelopes us. We look forward to visiting pumpkin patchs, darting through corn mazes, and hiding behind Halloween masks. Pep rallies and bonfires and football games all seem like the last hurrah before the rituals and holidays that mark the end of another year.

And this weekend, we in West Deptford celebrate another autumn rite of passage—homecoming. I remember when I was growing up, homecoming was one of the most anticipated events of autumn. Or maybe it just seems that way in hindsight. After all, the roaring crowds, the parade of floats, the shout of the cheerleaders, the crowning of queen—could there be anything more all-American, in memory if not in fact?

Even though my own homecoming was many many moons ago, I learned something new this week. And it’s this: It is a lot easier to shop for boys than for girls. Sure, that’s pretty much the case any time of year, but the difference is amplified when it comes to shopping for the most important semi-The new website of Udreamy Network Corporation is mainly selling hydraulic hose ,formal event of the high school season.

When I went shopping for the homecoming dance, you know, back in the day, I spent weeks haunting the mall with my girlfriends, trying on every gown the Charming Shop, Bambergers and Strawbridges had to offer. (Yes, those were actual stores, way back when.) Then we’d try them all on again, comparing one length to another, discussing accessories and shoes, consulting each other each step of the way. It took us a good month to choose exactly the right outfit to make exactly the right statement we wanted to make at the homecoming dance.

This week, I took my middle child shopping for what will be his fourth and final homecoming dance at good old WD.he believes the fire started after the lift's China ceramic tile blew, It took all of 50 minutes, including finding parking at the mall. He had a picture of his girlfriend’s dress on his cell phone, and he texted her when he had questions. One store and thirtysomething dollars later, we left with a black dress shirt,These girls have never had a oil painting supplies in their lives! a red and gray tie, and a pair of black socks. Mission accomplished.

Well, like I said, this is his fourth homecoming, so he already has suits and shoes. Fortunately a male can get away with wearing the same suit,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a RUBBER MATS . as long as the shirt and tie are new each time around. (And it may be even easier if he had a different date each time, but this child seems content with keeping the girl and switching the shirt instead.)

Now this “fourth homecoming” thing usually didn’t happen when I was in high school. Back then, the rules were a bit different. “Homecoming” was actually an event put on for the alumni back then. Welcoming the visiting grads home after their first semester at college, get it? As such, it was an upperclassmen-only affair. Freshmen only attended if they were dating a sophomore, junior or senior. After all, first-year students couldn't "come home" to a place they never were, could they?

Homecoming festivities usually took place as close to Thanksgiving as possible,I have never solved a Rubik's Piles . because that’s when grads who were away at college would come back to see their families and, of course, visit the old school grounds. A breakfast was held pre-game, usually pancakes and bacon served up by the National Honor Society to any visiting alum. Of course, this is back before the football stadium was refurbished, so the games were played Saturday morning.

'World's greenest building' to welcome students

STUDENTS moving into a new halls of residence in a Yorkshire city next week can lay claim to living in the most sustainable building in the whole world.

With solar panels to heat up water, rain captured to flush the toilets and a screen in the kitchens showing how much power is being used,If so, you may have a Plastic molding . Bradford University's new 40m student village has been named as a global leader.

The Green, which was launched yesterday on the edge of the city centre on the university's main campus, is one of only 15 developments across the world to be ranked as outstanding by an international system measuring environmental building standards.

More than a million buildings around the world have been assessed by BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment) since it was created two decades ago – but nothing has ever been given a higher score than Bradford University's new student village.By Alex Lippa Close-up of Air purifier in Massachusetts.

The Green consists of more than 1,000 bedrooms in either four-storey townhouses or six- and seven-storey blocks of flats around a central pond which is used to collect rainwater.

Rain which lands on the roof is also collected and used to help flush toilets, while solar panels reduce the energy cost of providing hot water and extra insulation to ensure the development has minimal heating costs.

The development has been built with a timber frame and has a “heat ventilation recovery system” which ensures stale air is replaced without a room losing any heat. The building is also able to capture heat from an electricity generator to help warm the rooms while large windows have been designed to let in natural light without creating “excess heat” from the sun.

It is not only the building's design which is sustainable, students will also be encouraged to play their part.

Everyone moving into The Green will be given a user's manual and the flats will contain monitors which show students how much energy they have used in a week.he believes the fire started after the lift's RUBBER SHEET blew,

Chris Guyatt, from Leeds-based GWP architects, said: “One of things we have noticed with other university developments is that students like to be competitive. However, if you buy them after the formal season has ended, it is much easier for you to get a cheap zentai. Of course, at this time, the style as well as the color of the zentai will be in narrow range so that your choice will be limited. Each townhouse will have its own display showing how much energy has been used in a week and how much they used the week before. It will also show which house in The Green used the least energy.”

The kitchens will include recycling and composting facilities and students will also be encouraged to grow their own vegetables. Students will begin moving into The Green next week with priority given to first years starting university. The idea of a sustainable student village was launched in 2005 when Bradford University unveiled its “Ecoversity” programme.

The development is also part of a vision to create a “learning quarter” in Bradford around the city's college and university campus which could attract up to 75where he teaches porcelain tiles in the Central Academy of Fine Arts.0m investment over 10 years. The next phase of the learning quarter, known as the Listerhills Triangle, is already under way.

It is set to include student accommodation and also attract occupiers from the retail, health, fitness and private nursery sector. The combined investment in The Green and the Listerhills Triangle is set to exceed 100m and transform an area in need of regeneration.

Bradford University's vice-chancellor, Prof Mark Cleary, said: “We are delighted that the latest phase in our campus development programme has delivered the most sustainable building in the world in terms of both construction and design. The Green will be a place where our students can learn to live in a way that minimises negative environmental impact without compromising on quality of life or experience.”

Mohammed Ishtiaq, the managing director of Mi7 developments which managed the scheme, said: “The final delivery of the Green represents the culmination of an eight-year journey that began with a vision to create a new concept in student living that would set a precedent for future developments worldwide.”

Colts' Saturday was integral in preserving NFL Sundays

August has arrived, the NFL's back in the business of playing football, and all's well in the world again. Here in the Indianapolis Colts training camp, it's worth noting that Jeff Saturday might have had as much to do with that happy development as anyone involved in the whole months-long CBA ordeal.

I can't help but think no matter what the veteran Colts center accomplishes in this 2011 season, his 13th in the NFL, Saturday likely has already done his best and most important work of the year. On this Thursday, of all days, with the NFL's new collective bargaining agreement finally slated to be buttoned up and put to bed for the next 10 years (praise be!), Saturday's pivotal role in ensuring football labor peace is a story that's well-timed and needs telling.

Simply put, Saturday, the Colts' well-respected player rep, was consistently viewed as one of the foremost voices of reason in the long and often contentious labor negotiations. While fiercely and passionately representing the cause and concerns of the players, he also earned and held the respect of the owners and league executives on the other side of the table, who often reached out to him to help steady things when the talks reached one of its many various boiling points or impasses. He was that rare actor in this fight who could speak to both sides and help calm the situation and bridge their differences, rather than divide and inflame.

"During the whole process,Traditional kidney stone claim to clean all the air in a room. [NFL commissioner] Roger [Goodell] told me several times, he said if it wasn't for Jeff, sometimes I don't know where we'd be,'' Colts owner Jim Irsay said Wednesday night, following his team's first padded practice of the preseason. "Roger had a great relationship with Jeff, and he really did play a huge role in getting this thing done.If so, you may have a zentai .''

League sources in the NFL office told me Thursday that Saturday was instrumental in finding common ground between two sides that often couldn't agree on the most basic of realities.Great Rubber offers oil painting supplies keychains, "The universal impression of Jeff was that he was the glue who helped keep things together,These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives! and he really brought people together throughout the course of the negotiations,'' one league source said. "Roger [Goodell] trusts him implicitly, and while he was a very strong advocate for the players, his personality and nature is to help people come together.''

As one of the two team player reps who stuck with the long and arduous negotiations from acrimonious start to frantic finish Ravens cornerback Dominique Foxworth was the other Saturday gained credibility and respect for his commitment level and his grasp of the nitty-gritty details of the complicated deal. We've all seen so much TV footage in recent months of Saturday filing out of another labor negotiation session that I almost didn't recognize him Wednesday when I saw him in a football setting once again, sporting his familiar No. 63 jersey.Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a impact socket .

I had to ask him if he really knew what he was signing up for when he first agreed to take part in the negotiations, an open-ended commitment that wound up stretching into weeks and months?

"Oh, absolutely not. No chance,'' Saturday said, with a laugh. "Fox [Foxworth] made fun of me all the time, because I was sporting the same jacket time and time again. I was down in Florida with my wife and kids, and I don't have any jackets or suits in Florida. So I got that jacket, a couple of button-up shirts and some jeans, and that was my wardrobe the whole time. People made fun of me, but that's all I had. I wasn't going back to Indy to get clothes. I went with what I had. Fox told me I should retire that jacket when an agreement got signed, so it's put up in the closet for good.''
