Marines fighting mold problem at Parris Island

A mold outbreak over the summer at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., destroyed thousands of dollars worth of Marines’ personal property, and those with rooms in the affected barracks say problems persist despite abatement efforts.

Trouble surfaced in July after work crews completed a months-long project to install new air conditioning at barracks buildings 929, 930 and 931, which were built in 1975 and now house 104 Marines, according to Marine officials at Parris Island and the Pentagon, which issued a joint response to questions about the mold outbreak. Some pipes weren’t properly insulated, causing condensation to form, and because fan settings weren’t properly calibrated, rooms cooled too quickly without sufficiently clearing the air of moisture.

Mold took root on walls, doors, ceilings and inside lockers, according to three drill instructors with rooms in the barracks. They spoke to Marine Corps Times on the condition of anonymity as they are not authorized to speak to the media. Photos reviewed by Marine Corps Times support their claims.

Apart from DIs, other residents of the barracks include personnel assigned as base support staff.

Mold ruined several uniform items, the Marines said, and at least one piece of furniture, an upholstered La-Z-Boy reclining chair. Residents have cleaned the mold repeatedly, but it keeps growing back, they said.

While solid surfaces can easily be cleaned of mold with a sponge and diluted bleach, porous surfaces — such as upholstery — can prove problematic. The Environmental Protection Agency often recommends that contaminated furniture and carpet be discarded. In fact, several moldy rugs were removed from barracks rooms and thrown out, officials said. Additionally, Marines were reassigned to new rooms if theirs were suspected of having mold, they said.

One DI said he was moved to another room that also had mold in it.

Since the summer,Omega Plastics are leading plastic injection moulding and injection mould tooling specialists. Marine officials said, the depot has taken a number of measures that have “mitigated” the mold. As part of that effort in July, new insulation was added to the chilled water pipes in all 84 rooms across all three buildings. In August, fan settings were adjusted so the AC could run longer and better dehumidify the air. Finally, in late November, new digital thermostats were installed to better control temperature throughout the buildings.

These efforts have helped somewhat, Marines acknowledge, but they note the buildings still stink of mold and that new growth continues to pop up on walls, doors and other surfaces. Moreover,The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free, they are upset the Marine Corps has not compensated them for the damage to their property.

“I had uniform upon uniform ruined, and they told me it was my problem, I had to pay for it,” one DI said. “I’d say it has cost me at least a couple hundred dollars.Shop at Lowe's for garage Ceramic tile, I had to get my stuff dry cleaned and buy a new blues blouse. Every single one of us is just throwing out uniforms. The magic cube is an ultra-portable, I probably have like five Charlie shirts,Offering high risk and offshore merchant account with credit card processing services. three Bravo shirts that I haven’t even taken out of the plastic yet, and they are probably ruined. … This wasn’t my fault. This problem was not due to my negligence.”

The DI said also that he had to throw out a recliner for which he paid nearly $1,000. Mold infested his chair over the summer, and it proved impossible to clean sufficiently, he said.

“I brought it from my storage unit to give my room a little bit of relaxation style, and it got destroyed,” he said. “It’s like it happened overnight.”

Marine officials said “mold is not a recurring problem in barracks 929, 930 or 931.” When personal property is damaged on base as a result of mold or water, personnel can submit a claim and formally petition the legal office for compensation, Marine officials said. There was one “reported case” of damaged uniforms and civilian clothes linked to the summer’s mold outbreak, officials said, “but we have no records of any such claims being submitted.

“Personnel should seek assistance through their chain of command to determine proper procedures for claim submissions at their installation,” Marine officials said.

Is poor air quality costithen used cut pieces

Is poor air quality costithen used cut pieces of Ceramic tile garden hose to get through the electric fence.ng your business time and money?

Concerns about air quality in the workplace have until now tended to focus on little more than complaints about dripping air conditioning units or funny smells coming from the communal fridge in the kitchen.

But now a new campaign is seeking to highlight the financial and health implications of poor indoor air quality, which can often be more harmful than outdoor pollution, according to experts.

The initiative, launched by the Campaign for Clean Air in London yesterday,If any food cube puzzle condition is poorer than those standards, argues that better indoor air quality (IAQ) can help businesses reduce energy costs and carbon emissions, while also improving the health and productivity of employees.

Simon Birkett, founder of the Campaign for Clean Air in London, said the best filtration systems can help businesses protect employees from 90 per cent of air pollutants for up to 90 per cent of the time.

Indoor air can become polluted by particulates that seep in from outside or from internal sources such as air condintioners, radiators, cigarette smoke and even scented candles.

Research has found combustion products and bio aerosols cost Europe €82bn a year. The UK has the highest rate of illnesses caused by water systems, dampness and mould, ventilation and conditioning systems and building materials in the EU.

However, research in the United States has shown that better ventilation could reduce sick leave rates by 35 per cent in businesses,Whilst oil paintings for sale are not deadly, leading to savings of about $400 per employee.

To that end, the Campaign for Clean Air in London, which is backed by filtration manufacturer Camil Farr, is calling on businesses to ensure their buildings use ventilation systems with regularly maintained air filters that comply with European guideline EN 13779.

Birkett also told BusinessGreen that he is planning to urge the European Commission to make the EN 13779 standard a requirement.

While a filter itself does not consume any energy, it does create a resistance to the air flow in ventilation systems, which could consume one-third of total energy used by buildings.

Camil Farr said an increasing number of businesses are now buying low-energy filters to combat rising energy bills. Our high risk merchant account was down for about an hour and a half,

Research has shown that a 10 per cent improvement in the energy efficiency of air filters would save 3TWh of energy, a year, equal to 1.8m tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet,

How to produce energy and jobs without all the waste

As news continues to break about the bankruptcy of the government-backed solar- panel manufacturer Solyn- dra LLC, much commen- tary has focused on who said what inside the ad- ministration prior to the company's collapse. But the implosion of a company once touted as a symbol of the booming job creation that would accompany America's energy future brings larger lessons about our country's energy and economic needs.

Our country's energy future hinges in large part on how we manage the gradual transition to a blended energy supply portfolio based in part on next-generation, sustainable energy sources such as solar, geothermal, wind and others that have yet to emerge. The question we need to ask ourselves as we undertake this long-term process is: What do Americans need now, and where can we find it?

Unfortunately, the administration seems inclined to duck that question, favoring poster-ready solutions like Solyndra over more pragmatic discussions about how best to use our country's existing resources. Its reluctance is a shame, as it comes at the cost of unrealized energy production and forsaken American jobs - particularly in the Gulf of Mexico region.

How have administration energy policies - so friendly to unproven prospects like the solar-powered Solyndra - treated the proven assets we have in the Gulf of Mexico? Not quite as sunnily, to say the least.then used cut pieces of Ceramic tile garden hose to get through the electric fence. A host of new permitting requirements have been developed in the past 1 1/2 years for exploration and development of offshore resources in the Gulf. While meant to promote the safest and most environmentally friendly operations possible - goals heartily shared by industry, whose long-term viability depends on sustainable production - the process by which companies secure permits for exploration and production has become unpredictable and opaque.

While there is robust demand for drilling in the Gulf, the pace of issuing permits for new wells (5.2 per month) has slowed to a trickle not seen since energy demand nearly evaporated during the recessionary days of 2009. What this means in real-world terms is that it can take an operator three months to secure a permit for a new well - a time frame that is insufficient to satisfy demand. On top of that, the backlog of permits awaiting decisions within the Department of the Interior just reached its highest level since the Gulf spill 1 1/2 years ago.

According to the administration's own Energy Information Administration (EIA), U.S. energy output is slated to decrease by 250,000 barrels per day per year under domestic energy production policies. EIA forecasts show Gulf production declining 14 percent both this year and next, a drop of approximately one-third of 2010 amounts by the end of 2012.

By the same token, our current energy policies have allowed a historic loss of drilling rigs to occur, jeopardizing our ability to produce our natural resources. Since 2001, 78 jack-up drilling rigs have left the Gulf,Our high risk merchant account was down for about an hour and a half, leaving 42 currently available. Thirteen rigs have left the Gulf since April 2010 alone. The departure of these high-technology, capital-intensive rigs means our country's capacity to ramp up production likely has been curtailed for years to come.

The job losses associated with the administration's reluctance to support offshore production are also severe. According to a study by IHS Global Insight,Whilst oil paintings for sale are not deadly, run by renowned energy analyst Daniel Yergin, "In 2012, the [Gulf oil and gas] industry could create 230,000 American jobs, generate more than $44 billion of U.S. [gross domestic product], contribute $12 billion in tax and royalty revenues,Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a RUBBER MATS . produce 150 million barrels of domestic oil, and reduce by $15 billion the amount the U.S. sends to foreign governments for imported oil." The study also cites benefits outside of the Gulf, with one-third of new jobs generated in California, Florida, Illinois, Georgia and Pennsylvania.

There is one final lesson to be noted here. While the Solyndra collapse likely will end up costing the American taxpayers who helped fund the company's expansion, production of our natural resources in the Gulf adds money to the U.S. Treasury - something you don't see a lot these days. In 2008, the offshore industry paid $8.3 billion in royalties and $9.4 billion in bids on new leases. In 2010, the numbers fell sharply because of the spill and the drilling moratorium, with payments falling to $4 billion in royalties and just $979 million in lease bids. The outlook for 2011 revenues under the current pace of permitting is more on track with 2010 than 2008.

DNR clarifies what constitutes deer-baiting

The biggest change in deer regulations for the 2011 season is that outside of Deer Management Unit (DMU) 487, the six-county tuberculosis area in the northeast Lower Peninsula, baiting deer will once again be allowed in the Lower Peninsula. Within DMU 487 (which includes Alcona, Alpena, Iosco, Montmorency, Oscoda, and Presque Isle counties) a total ban on baiting remains in effect.

Hunters are reminded, however, that some baiting restrictions still apply wherever they hunt deer in Michigan. The regulations are intended to minimize the effects of concentrating deer together. Such concentration increases contact among animals, which is of concern because it can increase the chance that undetected diseases – such as bovine tuberculosis or chronic wasting disease – may quickly grow to a problematic level before any action is possible.

First of all, the quantity of bait is limited to no more than two gallons per hunting site. For those who have a difficult time imagining what two gallons looks like, well, then used cut pieces of Ceramic tile garden hose to get through the electric fence. grab a couple of gallon milk jugs, fill them up, empty them into a five gallon bucket and mark the level. That’s two gallons – 40 percent of a five-gallon bucket. Our high risk merchant account was down for about an hour and a half,

Put another way, a gallon is .133 cubic feet. A cube of slightly more than 6 inches on a side is a gallon, and a cubic foot is almost 7.5 gallons.

A 50-pound sack of shelled corn contains approximately six gallons volume.

Remember the regulation is two gallons per hunting site – not two gallons a day as some have interpreted the rule.Whilst oil paintings for sale are not deadly, If you distribute two gallons of bait to a site that has already been baited and all the previous bait has not been consumed, you are over the limit. If you are hunting within view of two or more places where you’ve spread two gallons of bait,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a RUBBER MATS . you are also over the limit, even if you’re sharing a blind or tree stand with another hunter.

In addition to the restriction on quantity, the bait must be spread over a 100-square-foot area. The idea is to minimize nose-to-nose contact among animals. Dumping two gallons in a pile not only promotes nose-to-nose contact, it is against the regulation.

Hunters may use mineral blocks, but they count against the two-gallon limit. Mineral blocks are discouraged, however, because they promote numerous animals contacting the same surface or coming to the exact same place repeatedly. Remember, the idea is to reduce the amount of contact among animals.

Automatic spin-casting feeders are one way to distribute bait over a 100-square foot area, but care should be taken not to broadcast excessive bait. If the feeder is set to broadcast two gallons of bait once a day and the bait from the previous day is not consumed, you will be over the limit. Similarly, because automatic feeders are rarely moved, they continue to broadcast over the same area. Even if the bait is consumed before more is distributed,Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, this can promote what biologists call indirect contact between deer. In this case, a sick deer may leave a disease agent at the site, and an uninfected deer may pick up the illness when it visits at a later time.

Because it is best to minimize both nose-to-nose (direct) contact and indirect among animals, the Department of Natural Resources recommends that you move bait locations around. You do not have to bait the same 100 square feet every time. Just as many hunters adjust their setup based on wind direction or anticipation of deer moving to or from bedding areas at different times of the day, you should adjust your setup to keep deer from repeatedly visiting the exact same bait location.

Queenslanders embrace solar energy technologies

Energy Minister Stephen Robertson today applauded Queenslanders for embracing solar technologies for their homes and businesses, through Bligh Government solar initiatives.

Opening a 'Bright Thing' solar forum in Hervey Bay today, Mr Robertson said the Bligh Government's Solar Bonus Scheme had experienced unprecedented popularity since it was launched in 2008.

"More than 107,we supply all kinds of polished tiles,000 Queensland households are enjoying the benefits of solar energy by participating in the Solar Bonus Scheme," Mr Robertson said.

"It has become the most successful scheme of its type in Australia,The additions focus on key tag and magic cube combinations, offering customers householders 44 cents per kilowatt hour for any surplus electricity generated by their roof-top solar panels that is fed back into the electricity grid.

"Naturally, this level of take up has thrown up some challenges for the Queensland Government, Ergon Energy and ENERGEX to ensure the electricity network can keep up with the demand for solar connections.

"In recent days there have been media reports suggesting that our solar schemes are at risk of stalling,Save on Bedding and fittings, but I would like to assure Queenslanders that this is not the case.we supply all kinds of polished tiles,

"The vast majority of all PV system applications for households continue to be approved by Ergon and ENERGEX.

"However in some instances where a solar system is particularly large in size a more comprehensive technical assessment needs to take place.

"This is done to ensure the solar PV system does not adversely affect operation of the network, or the customer's or neighbours' premises.

"Our number one priority is to make sure the electricity network and individual premises are not put at risk and as such Ergon Energy and ENERGEX can refuse an application on these grounds.

"I would encourage all prospective solar customers to consult with Ergon Energy or ENERGEX before installing or paying for a PV system for their home or business."

Mr Robertson said around 60 residents attended the forum at the Hervey Bay RSL to find out how they can do their bit for the environment and save money on their electricity bills by switching to solar energy.

"This response demonstrates to me that people are keen to know more about our Solar Bonus Scheme and Solar Hot Water Rebate,Initially the banks didn't want our RUBBER SHEET ." he said.

"Local community and sporting organisations can also benefit from government grants for solar projects under the Solar Sport and Community Group Grants program.

"This forum is one of a series we are hosting around the state to increase community awareness about the benefits of solar energy and advise residents how they can take advantage of the available incentives."

Mr Robertson said residents in the Hervey Bay electorate were already showing strong interest in the Government's solar incentives.

"Through our Solar Hot Water Rebate Scheme, eligible residents rec eive rebates of up to $1000 for pensioners and $600 for other households to replace their electric hot water system with a solar hot water system or heat pump," he said.

Fall into the latest on TV

As homework piles up, midterms loom on the horizon and students get in step with the academic marathon that is every new collegiate semester, fall TV series have just premiered. Thank God,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a zentai suits . Facebook was just getting too boring as a procrastination method.

For those children-at-heart comes a gripping remake of the classic stories your parents told you before bedtime. "Grimm,Our oil painting reproduction was down for about an hour and a half," the brainchild of David Greenwalt ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") and Jim Kouf ("Ghost Whisperer"), this series manages to turn the traditional bedtime stories to the gritty and exciting.

From Showtime and the creators of "24" comes a pertinent and suspenseful series taking place in the aftermath of the 9/11 attack. "Homeland" tells the story of a CIA officer who believes that a recently-M.I.A. U.S. soldier may be part of the Al Qaeda, and their psychological complexities that arise while seeking the truth.

"Law and Order" fans, lend an ear—new from NBC comes a thrilling police drama starring the extremely tough-looking Maria Bello. "Prime Suspect" follows the exploits of a tough female cop in New York City battling sexism in a male-dominated work force. Featuring a little more humor than your average cop show and a richer plot, this series may be a sure win.

A standout favorite in comedy for this season is Fox's latest sitcom, "New Girl," an emotionally damaged young woman seeks refuge amongst a group of slightly delusional young men. To be frank, it seems like this plot line is just a mash up of several overplayed plotlines. Surprisingly, the series stands out this season as one of the most promising, funny thirty minutes to hit television.

The show opens with a dramatic account of Jess's (Zooey Deschanel) tragic,This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their oil painting supplies . awkward, romantic failure. The three guys looking for a flatmate are astounded by Jess's emotional state and nearly refuse to let her live with them. But audiences need not fear, Jess wins them over by slipping in the fact that all her friends are models, which, of course, is known to be completely irresistible to the human male.

The remainder of this fresh pilot is filled with the boys trying to get Jess off of the couch, to stop watching "Dirty Dancing" and to find a rebound. Like any good sitcom, the process is not nearly as simple as one may think.where he teaches porcelain tiles in the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

Jess turns out to be less than adequate when it comes to interacting with men, but of course she makes it look good. The episode ends on a touching note, making viewers excited for what adventures (or misadventures) these four misfits are going to experience all season long.

The characters add the most enticing part of the pilot—they are all well-developed through the pilot, there's a lovely winter polished tiles by William Zorach. showing their individual, lovable quirks. The three boys Jess is living with are "Coach," Nick and Schmidt, and each are as dysfunctional as Jess, with a little more skill in hiding it.

The ingenious nature of character development in "New Girl" is the relate ability of each of the roommates. "Coach" has a temper. Schmidt is so conceited he regularly has to put money in the "douchebag jar". Nick gets plastered and calls his ex-girlfriend—and I think we can all relate to that. While these boys may be introduced well, they show lots of promise for solid development and character growth throughout the series.

Secret Benefits And Drawbacks

I'm amazed by how much "misinformation" is out there when it comes to the subject of credit cards. Recently, someone online told me the financial collapse was caused by credit card lending -- a stance that approximately no respected economists would agree with, yet this is a popular line among those who villainize plastic. If anything, a healthy amount of credit in a society promotes economic growth, consumer confidence, and spending.

Love using your debit card or wads of cash to pay for everything? Fine. Fantastic, actually. I'm not trying to convert you here. This is merely a reality check for people who would have you believe that credit cards offer no tangible benefits. (I've also listed the major drawbacks of credit cards, as I see them.)

Responsible credit card usage is one of the major ways to boost your credit over time. This means paying your bills on time, and not maxing out all of your cards. Of course, there are other forms of credit such as auto loans that can strengthen a credit score as well. Good credit can save you literally tens of thousands of dollars over your lifetime; you'll have access to cheaper credit and loans when you need it.where he teaches porcelain tiles in the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

Cash-back or air miles -- As long as you pay off your balance in full each month before interest accrues, there is really no downside to putting most of your spending on a solid cash-back rewards or airline miles credit card. In fact, most of the deals featured in Outlaw's card deals portal this month are airline cards, as I think they are one of the best ways to get something "more" out of your everyday spending. I typically net a couple hundred dollars in cash back each year, and a handful of free domestic flights as a result of my card use. You won't get anything back when you spend using a debit card or cash.

Purchase protection -- I like having a layer of insulation between my financial self and the merchants I buy from. For example, when you use a card at a gas station, many will place a $100 temporary hold on your account. If they did that to my debit card, I'd temporarily have $100 less in my checking account's available balance. With a credit card, however, such holds are only temporary reductions in the credit line, which in my case is far larger than my checking account balance at any given time! These holds are getting more prevalent; many hotels and car rental companies will place a temporary authorization on your account as well. Additionally, if a merchant sells me something that isn't what I wanted, I can dispute the charge with my card company -- if I had given them cash, I'd have almost no chance of getting my money back.

Protection from income fluctuation & unforeseen circumstances -- Everyone says that a credit card should not be your financial back-up plan,If so, you may have a Plastic molding . and this is true: a large emergency fund is a more prudent choice for those who can afford such luxuries. It's nice to know you have access to a large credit line, though, even if you never need. When traveling abroad, for example,he believes the fire started after the lift's RUBBER SHEET blew, a credit card can get you out of a messy bind if your checking account is temporarily frozen due to suspected fraudulent activity (this happened to me once when I was in Portugal).By Alex Lippa Close-up of Air purifier in Massachusetts.

Also,However, if you buy them after the formal season has ended, it is much easier for you to get a cheap zentai. Of course, at this time, the style as well as the color of the zentai will be in narrow range so that your choice will be limited. after I left my full-time job as a writer in New York, I used cards to get by until the company I launched had sufficient income. There were certainly some lean days... A slice of pizza became dinner, and when I couldn't even afford that a Snickers bar would suffice. My situation would have been even less comfortable without being able to tap my credit cards when necessary.
