Lockyer's brave plan to save face

Lockyer, who had three plates inserted in his fractured eye socket yesterday morning, is rated only a 50-50 chance to take his place by coach Anthony Griffin, although the final decision will be left in the skipper's hands.he believes the fire started after the lift's RUBBER SHEET blew,

Lockyer can at least take comfort in the knowledge that the Broncos will do everything possible to protect their talisman.

Griffin has already spoken to surgeons John Arvier and Peter Meyers, who operated on Lockyer at Brisbane's Wesley Hospital, and been assured there is minimal risk.

"It's just a matter of how quickly the pain and swelling subsides," Griffin said.

"The surgeon is getting a guard made as a precaution. Again, it's Darren's choice on if he wants to wear it. It's a normal head gear with pads over the cheek."

Any mask, however, will require the approval of the NRL and its chief medical officer Ron Muratore.

"Under the rules of the game, the referee has the final say on game day as to what is and isn't allowed on the playing field,This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their oil painting supplies ." NRL football operations manager Nathan McGuirk said.

"We will try to take a look at it before then."

The NRL's plans to investigate any extra measures to protect Lockyer came as referees coach Bill Harrigan warned the Brisbane captain he would not be afforded any special treatment and Manly coach Des Hasler described questions over targeting Lockyer as "immoral" and "unethical".

"You want to go out and dance on the dance floor mate, then you dance," Harrigan said.

"No matter who is refereeing that game, Lockyer will run out as a normal player and we won't be thinking, 'OK, this bloke has got plates in his head, we have to look after him'.

"He'll go out just like any other player and if someone does hit him in the head like a normal game,Replacement rubber hose and bulbs for Canada and Worldwide. then we'll take the appropriate action on it.The new website of Udreamy Network Corporation is mainly selling Ceramic tile ,"

Hasler bristled at suggestions his side would target Lockyer and said he had told his players to steer clear of such questions.

"That's an immoral question, not very ethical," Hasler said.

"We have instructed our club and players not to buy into that question.where he teaches porcelain tiles in the Central Academy of Fine Arts. It's not fair." While players have suffered cheekbone fractures in the past, very few have returned to the field less than a week later. In most cases, those who have come back quickly have done so with the help of a protective mask.

Former Broncos centre Steve Renouf wore a similar protective helmet for the 1993 finals after he broke his jaw in two places.

"The head gear company I was with just made a hard padded strap that came down over the jaw," Renouf said yesterday.

"It just gave me that little added protection from contact and bit more confidence going into a tackle.

"It worked well and I ended up wearing it for the rest of my career. It might work perfectly for Lockyer when I think about it because I was sure it helped with impact."

While Renouf had a five-week stint on the sidelines before returning, Lockyer is ambitiously aiming to be back on the field within six days.
