He communications minister has requested the Bangladesh chapter of global corruption watchdog Transparency International (TIB) to look into his ministry's activities for any clues of graft.
Syed Abul Hossain sent a letter to the Berlin-based influential watchdog on Tuesday.
The letter was sent 10 days after WikiLeaks leaked a cable in which former US ambassador James F Moriarty termed him as 'less-than-honest'.
A copy of the letter was sent to TIB chairperson Sultana Kamal while another to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The letter outlined that the secretaries of the roads, rail and bridges divisions under the ministry had been ordered to help the TIB.where he teaches porcelain tiles in the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
The minister in the letter said, "Recently a certain section of the media has been carrying out baseless propaganda against the communications ministry, hampering implementation of development projects. The baseless and malicious reports are barring the country's development."
The letter from the ministry has been printed on the minister's personal pad. A special courier carried the letter to the TIB office on Tuesday.

In the cable sent February last year, the former US ambassador, who completed his service in Bangladesh and departed on June 17, made the comment on the basis of 'other high-ranking government officials who admitted problems with the minister's way of doing business'.

"The [communications] minister, who has a reputation for less-than-honest business dealings, remains focused on delivering the infrastructure projects he and prime minister Sheikh Hasina have promised to Bangladesh voters," the cable reads.

The minister also claimed that information on development work under his ministry is regularly sent to the Transparency International, Bangladesh.The new website of Udreamy Network Corporation is mainly selling Ceramic tile , "I always want to keep my work transparent."
In reply, TIB said that the information provided by the ministry is not sufficient to evaluate the transparency of its works. It also said that it had provided that ministry with the guidelines for ensuring transparency.
On Sep 7, the ministry's information officer Mohammad Abu Naser said that the minister has asked the secretaries to clarify on whether TIB gave such a proposal and how it was handled.
