Villagers showcase their work at Artists Round the Square

The day couldn’t be more picture-perfect, with a gentle breeze, smooth sounds of jazz guitar and a showcase of local artists’ masterpieces.

The Villages Entertainment Department and The Villages Visual Arts Association hosted Artists Round the Square on Sunday at Lake Sumter Landing. More than 20 artists displayed their work and even had pieces for sale.

The event showcased artwork that used all types of media, such as oil, acrylic and watercolor paints,These girls have never had a oil painting supplies in their lives! pencils, pen and ink and photography, said Nan Kohr, chairwoman of Artists Round the Square with The Villages Visual Art Association.

The event was supposed to happen last weekend, but it was postponed because of the rain, she said. But she couldn’t have been happier with the turn of events because Sunday had perfect weather, Kohr added. Artists also showed three pieces of art that residents could vote for as their top three, she added.

“We love having these events because the artists love being out in the community, meeting new people and talking about their art,” Kohr said. “We love getting the community involved because they feel like they are apart of the show when they vote.”

Phil and Mary Myers made a point to attend the event because they are artists themselves. The Village of Mallory Square residents said they are impressed with all the artistic talent in The Villages and enjoy admiring other artists’ creations.

“The Villages really has phenomenal talent here,” Mary Myers said. “I think there’s a lot of form art teachers and artists here, but all of their work is amazing.”

Judi Adams, an artist, showed off two acrylic paintings of landscape and floral scenes and one watercolor painting of a young girl sitting next to a cat. Having an art show outside is the perfect venue because so many people will stumble upon the show, Adams said.

The Village of Hemingway resident already sold a couple of pieces shortly after the show started.

“I love sharing my work with people and the square is such a fantastic venue to show our work,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a RUBBER MATS .The new website of Udreamy Network Corporation is mainly selling hydraulic hose ,I have never solved a Rubik's Piles .” Adams said. “The weather is perfect,he believes the fire started after the lift's China ceramic tile blew, everything about the day is great.”
