The centre now boasts a new 100-station, fully air-conditioned, state-of-the-art gym with audio-visual system and 50-inch plasma TVs.

Among the other major features of the revamp are a youth gym designed specifically for 11 to 15-year-olds, three new treatment rooms to offer physio, health MOTs and beauty treatments, and an improved and re-tiled pool hall.

The centre's old gym has been turned into a soft-play zone for children under seven, as well as providing an enlarged fitness and dance studio.

The centre entrance, reception area, cafe, wet and dry changing facilities and toilets have all been extensively renovated and modernised too.

Adam De Save, borough council executive member for healthy communities, called the facilities “fantastic.”

Coun De Save said: “The council is committed to helping residents live healthy and active lives.

“As well as significantly improving and modernising the centre for existing customers, we also want Donyngs to attract new users from all sections of the community, including children, older people and families.”

He said: “The centre is also now more accessible for customers with disabilities and has a range of equipment suitable for visually impaired and disabled users.

“Feedback from customers had been extremely positive.

“I hope that these fantastic facilities will become even more popular with local people.Whilst oil paintings for sale are not deadly,”

The new youth gym features a mix of high-tech activities such as interactive dance mats, a target board and its own audio-visual system, along with more traditional exercise equipment tailored for younger people.Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a RUBBER MATS .

Donyngs, which was built in the 1980s, has also undergone significant improvements behind the scenes, designed to increase efficiency and reduce power and water usage.

A new ventilation, heating and air-conditioning system has been installed throughout the centre, and lighting, mechanical plant, electrical wiring and fire alarms have been upgraded.

The borough council is investing more than20 million in new and improved leisure centres across the borough over the next five years, including the refurbishment of Donyngs.

Public areas have been refurbished with new flooring, wall coverings, lighting, and signage, and outside, a new dedicated cycle storage facility and seating will be installed.

Donyngs remained open to customers throughout the nine-month project, with phased closures put in place as individual facilities were refurbished.
