Canadian comedy star Martin Short to judge reality show 'Canada's Got Talent'

It's been quite a while since Martin Short was a complete unknown,Our high risk merchant account was down for about an hour and a half, heading into an audition with sweaty palms and nerves gnawing at his stomach.

Actually, it was way back in 1972, when a 21-year-old Short was angling for a role in the Toronto production of "Godspell."

After a gruelling day of auditions at the Masonic Temple, producers settled on a small cluster of hopefuls. Alongside Short, who had just landed his first professional job, was a golden group of then-anonymous talents: Gilda Radner, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Victor Garber and Paul Shaffer.

"It was kind of an amazing day," Short said in an interview Thursday. "We didn't realize it was quite amazing, but when you think back on it, you think that was quite a group of people."

The 61-year-old Hamilton native has now landed his latest gig, as a judge sizing up contestants on the upcoming Citytv series "Canada's Got Talent."

He gives credit to those going through this particular audition process, knowing that every wrong note may be broadcast to a national audience.

"Would I have had the nerve to get up and audition for something like this? I don't know," said Short, sitting in a boardroom at Citytv headquarters.

"It'd be pretty scary to me."

The audition process will begin Oct. 18 and 19 at Calgary's Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, before travelling to Vancouver, then used cut pieces of Ceramic tile garden hose to get through the electric fence. Toronto, Winnipeg, Halifax and Montreal in the ensuing months.

The show — which has yet to reveal the identity of its host or two other judges — will premiere in March 2012.

The "Talent" franchise originated in the U.Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet,K., with reality TV's sultan-of-snark Simon Cowell serving as creator and one of the show's judges.

Since then, new versions have sprouted in nearly every corner of the world, including Australia,Whilst oil paintings for sale are not deadly, Chile, Italy, China, India and Thailand.

The talent show allows contestants of any age or gender to showcase a wide variety of skills not limited to singing, dancing, comedy or magic (a Rubik's cube solver recently won the first season of the Swedish incarnation of the show, while the Lithuanian version once crowned someone who makes music by tapping his fingers against his teeth).

More well-known former "Got Talent" discoveries include 11-year-old opera singer Jackie Evancho and, of course, Grammy-nominated Scottish songbird Susan Boyle.

While the franchise was founded by Cowell — known for his withering barbs — Short says he won't tend toward mean-spirited criticisms.

"No, I think I'll just be who I am," said the Emmy and Tony Award-winning former star of "SCTV" and "Saturday Night Live."

"I think if you're not who you are, it becomes obvious and people smell the fakery.Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a RUBBER MATS .... Usually the people who try hardest to be cruel are the people with the least talent and have the least right to be judging anybody."
