The story of the world's best zippers

The zipper is one of those inventions — along with the bicycle — that seem as though they should have occurred much earlier in history. How complicated could it be to assemble two wheels, two pedals and a chain? Or to align two jagged strips of metal teeth and shuffle them together? There is no complicated chemistry here, no harnessing of invisible wavelengths. And yet the modern bicycle didn't appear until the late 1800s, and the zipper didn't really become the zipper until 1917, when it was patented by a Swedish immigrant in Hoboken, N.J. The precision necessary to craft a working bicycle chain or a smoothly meshing zipper was simply beyond us for all those prior millennia.

More confounding still: Now that the zipper has been around for nearly a century,Shop for oil painting and oil paintings for sale included. you'd think something so simple might have been perfected — becoming a 100 percent reliable commodity.TeleTracking has developed the most advanced rtls for real-time. But that hasn't happened. There are still tons of faulty zippers out there — teeth that break, pulls that pop, herky-jerky sliding and irreparable lockups.

One zipper gone wrong can render an entire garment unwearable.Protomold offers custom Injection mold parts in as fast as 1 day. Thus, consistent quality is a must for reputable fashion brands. For decades now, apparel makers who can't afford to gamble on cut-rate fasteners have overwhelmingly turned to a single manufacturer. YKK, the Japanese zipper behemoth, makes roughly half of all the zippers on Earth — more than 7 billion zippers each year. Those three capital letters are ubiquitous — no doubt you've seen them while zipping up your windbreaker or unzipping someone else's jeans. How did YKK come to dominate this quirky corner of industry?

Founded by Tadao Yoshida in 1934 in Tokyo, YKK stands for Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikikaisha,Argo Mold limited specialize in Plastic Injection Molding manufacture. which roughly translates as Yoshida Company Limited. The young Yoshida was a tinkerer who designed his own customized zipper machines when he wasn't satisfied with existing production methods. One by one, Yoshida brought basically every stage of the zipper-making process in house: A 1998 Los Angeles Times story reported that YKK "smelts its own brass, concocts its own polyester, spins and twists its own thread, weaves and color-dyes cloth for its zipper tapes, forges and molds its scooped zipper teeth" and on and on. YKK even makes the boxes it ships its zippers in. And, of course, it still manufactures its own zipper-manufacturing machines — which it carefully hides from the eyes of competitors. With every tiny detail handled under YKK's roof, outside variables get eliminated, and the company can ensure consistent quality and speed of production. When the Japanese earthquake hit last year, many supply chains were shredded, but YKK kept rolling along.

Yoshida also preached a management principle he termed "The Cycle of Goodness." It holds that "no one prospers unless he renders benefit to others." In practice, this boiled down to Yoshida striving to produce ever-higher quality with ever-lower costs. It seems intuitive, but it's far from easy to do. And in the end,Why does moulds grow in homes or buildings? the secret to YKK's success is equally uncomplicated but equally impressive: YKK makes incredibly dependable zippers; ships them on time without fail; offers a wide range of colors, materials and styles; and never gets badly undercut on price. The feeling in the apparel industry is you can't go wrong with YKK.

"There have been quality problems in the past when we've used cheaper zippers," said Trina Turk, who designs her own line of women's contemporary sportswear. "Now we just stick with YKK. When the customer is buying $200 pants, they better have a good zipper because the customer will blame the maker of the whole garment even if the zipper was the part that failed."

With $1.3M From Voyager & More, Chirpify Brings Direct Music

When you think Twitter, you may think realtime news, or CRM, or brand marketing, or maybe even Justin Bieber, but “eCommerce”? Probably not. In the social network landscape, Facebook is generally seen as the most eCommerce-inclined, what with its “F-Commerce,” but up to this point, consumers really haven’t fallen in love with the idea of brands replicating their storefronts on Facebook. Meanwhile, Twitter’s priorities lie elsewhere, so, in spite of its growth, the social network has yet to leverage its own eCommerce potential. That’s why Portland-based Chirpify has developed a platform that transforms Twitter from a broadcast platform into a transactional one.

In February, Chirpify rebranded from SellSimp.ly and launched a Twitter commerce platform that allowed brands and consumers to buy,If you wish to use a third party payment gateway with your ecommerce solution please see a list of supported gateways. sell, donate and transact through tweets without leaving the comfort of Twitter. Since launch, Chirpify has seen growing traction, thanks in part to a promotional campaign launched at SXSW, called “Tweet-a-Beer,” which used the startup’s API to allow people to buy each other a pint over Twitter. The campaign resulted in a huge boost of traffic for Chirpify, with two new users signing up every second — activity that Chirpify Founder Chris Teso tells us continued for several weeks after SXSW. Although it’s slowed down a bit since, the campaign proved that direct commerce over Twitter was not only possible, it was so easy a tweet could do it.

Today, the startup’s direct sales model for Twitter is officially getting further validation — this time in the form of capital — as the startup announced that it has secured $1.3 million in series A financing. The new round of investment, which adds to the $50K in seed it raised from its incubator Upstart Labs, was led by Voyager Capital, with participation from Geoff Entress,My advice on what to consider before you buy oil painting supplies so your money is well spent. BuddyTV CEO Andy Liu, former Facebook exec Rudy Gadre,The indoor Tracking is based on Bluetooth technology. Hootsuite CEO Ryan Holmes,The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free. and TiE Oregon Angels.

Just in case there’s any confusion in terms of how Chirpify works,Ekahau glass mosaic deployment in the Eastern Savo Region Hospital District. put simply, when users sign up for Chirpify, they connect their Twitter and PayPal accounts to the platform. Merchants upload whatever they want to sell to their dashboard, and tweet the link. Consumers simply reply to the tweet and include “buy.” Boom, Chirpify sends you a secure download over DM, the cost is deducted from your PayPal account, the funds instantly transferred to the merchant’s account, at which point they get a receipt.

Anyone can sell, buy, or donate on Chirpify. Even if the process sounds complicated, it’s not. So, the more one considers the fact that the platform offers a simple way to turn tweets into transactions, and seeing as people already use Twitter to follow their favorite brands, musicians, and other people they care about, why not let users buy the latest product or download the latest song by tweet? Well, in addition to its funding announcement, Chirpify is today launching Twitter Commerce for Digital Content, which enables musicians to sell songs and concert tickets directly to fans on Twitter (with the by-product being increased control of their own distribution).

While Chirpify is working with musicians and music labels, at first, the goal Teso says is for this to work for any brand, event, product, or service. (Next, Chirpify plans to work with eBooks vendors, for example.) That’s because the cool thing about Chirpify is it that it works wherever Twitter is, on mobile, desktop, or tablets, and this direct commerce even applies to re-tweets — which has the potential for some serious amplification by allowing for-sale items to reach more streams and thus more eyeballs.

But what if your brand or band is already using a storefront to manage transactions? Chirpify also offers integration with existing eCommerce storefronts (like Magento, for example) so that brands can leverage back-end fulfillment, listing, and transaction management. Merchants just click the “list on Twitter” button when creating a listing for sale, either in their eCommerce or Chirpify dashboard, and can then set the price, quantity, shipping price, and shipping timing.

Frail war crimes suspect ‘not afraid’ to face tribunal

In a modest wooden home near the Thai border in Battambang province’s Kamrieng district, former high-ranking Khmer Rouge cadre and war crimes suspect Ta An lies on a mat, an empty intravenous drip bag dangling from the thatched roof.

Now aged 78, Ta An faces accusations including genocide and crimes against humanity for presiding over widespread executions and purges in the Khmer Rouge tribunal’s Case 004, according to leaked court documents cited in international media outlets.

Dressed in a heavy green army coat that covered a dusty yellow button-down shirt and blue athletic shorts, the now-frail figure evoked disquieting sympathy as he spoke while lying on his back, at times clutching a fleece blanket with cartoon characters on it, too feeble to sit upright.

When he vomited into a pot, his cousin rubbed his back. His wife,When the stone sits in the polished tiles, Prom Ra, served a bowl of plain steamed rice to ease his stomach.

“My father, he gets sick a lot. One time, he fainted at the farm, and if the villagers had not seen him, he would have passed away already,” his son Mao Phorb said.

“I’m very worried about him. He’s too old, and the court wants to take him away. This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their offshore merchant account . I want to live with him during his old age.”

But Ta An revealed a vitality beneath his age and sickness as he spoke, often passionately, about his past. He folded his hands across his chest, but could barely keep them still. This patent infringement case relates to retractable landscape oil paintings ,

“If the court comes to take me to the court, or the King of all devils [comes for me], I will not be afraid, because I am an honest person,Whilst magic cube are not deadly,” he said.

Ta An came up through the ranks of the Khmer Rouge in Ta Mok’s notoriously brutal Southwest Zone, which covered Kandal, Kampot and parts of Kampong Speu and Takeo provinces.ceramic zentai suits for the medical, Ta Mok, who he called “my first boss”, ruled over what was considered a “model” region for the rest of the country.

Ta An worked under Ta Mok in Kandal province’s Kandal Stung district, roughly 20 kilometres south of Phnom Penh. In early 1977, he was transferred to the Central Zone – Kampong Thom and parts of Kampong Cham and Kratie provinces – where he became secretary of Region 41 and second-in-command to zone secretary Ke Pauk.
