WRHA burning piles of cash

Winnipeg Regional Health Authority spokesperson Kathryn McBurney contacted the Sun this past week to tell us the WRHA only has six vice presidents, not 10 as we reported.

She's right that we got the number wrong. There was one lower-paid VP that I missed when I added up the number of WRHA VPs. There are in fact 11 VPs who work for the WRHA, not 10.

McBurney argues that we listed some VPs who retired last year who appear in the same compensation disclosure report as their successors, suggesting we double counted.

Nope.

We didn't list the names of all 10 VPs. We listed the Top-20 highest paid bureaucrats at the WRHA, which included some retired and some existing VPs.

Not all VPs made it onto the Top-20 list. Maybe we should do a Top-40 list next year, Casey Kasem-style.

Whatever the case,This page list rubber hose products with details & specifications. there are 11 VPs now working for the WRHA.

They are: Brock Wright, Catherine Cook, Milton Sussman, Paul Kochan, Real Cloutier, Lori Lamont, John Van Massenhoven, Dana Erickson, Perry Gray, Patrick Griffith and Helen Clark.

Some work in the WRHA offices, others work in outside facilities such as Health Sciences Centre. But all work under the legal entity of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, which owns and operates HSC.the Injection mold fast!

So when I asked the question last week "How many vice-presidents does it take to run the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority," the answer is 11, not 10.

Just like in the movie Spinal Tap.

McBurney also said the reason VP of aboriginal health Catherine Cook got a 23% pay hike between 2008 and 2010 is because she took on added responsibilities.

She's not just the VP for aboriginal health anymore, said McBurney. She's now the VP for "population and aboriginal health."

Oh.

So that's why she got a 23% pay hike?

What McBurney failed to explain is why we need a VP for aboriginal health at all in Winnipeg.Save on hydraulic hose and fittings, I'll ask the question a second time. Do aboriginal people require different medical care than people of other races?

Meanwhile, you may be interested to know that the WRHA employed seven media relations/public affairs personnel who were paid $50,000 or more last year, according to the 2010 compensation disclosure report.

These guys literally have money to burn. The Leading zentai suits Distributor to Independent Pet Retailers.

Why they need seven spin doctors and public affairs people is beyond me.

And some of them are paid embarrassingly well.

Let's start with the top communicator: Michelle Augert, director of public affairs, who was paid $128,700 in 2010. There are some deputy ministers in the provincial government who run entire departments who are paid salaries in that range.

Next up, Heidi Graham, director of media relations for the WRHA. She took home a staggering $112,017 of taxpayers money last year to help manage tricky and sometimes embarrassing stories for the WRHA.

Kelly Langevin pulled in $85,122 as manager of community and public affairs for the WRHA. While Judy Chapman was paid $64,798 as a communications project manager.

Then there were the spin doctor worker-bees. Communications specialists Shauna Allan was paid $63,006 last year. Kathryn McBurney, the chosen spin doctor for this story, took in $52,973 in 2010. And Lorieann Mayer, communications specialist,The same Air purifier, cover removed. was paid $51,929 in 2010.

Keep these salaries in mind the next time you hear health officials say they're strapped for cash.
